Strange Money

Copper coins of unknown origin infiltrate France in 1780. The public at the marketplace and in shops is aggressively forced to accept the money. The Chamber of Finance under King Louis XVI issues an edict on 14 October 1780 that makes these practices punishable. A fine of 3000 pounds awaits anyone who consciously introduces strange money in the land. The goods themselves are confiscated and so is their packing and means of transport, such as horses, carts, and carriages. A 500-pound fine is imposed on any transaction using strange money, which is to be paid 'solidairement' by both giver and receiver.
