Saving Text

Sicco Mansholt

BG A58/186

Sicco Mansholt (1908-1995), a European politician, purchased his first computer when he was 81, and composed his first digital letter on 15 February 1990. In it he wrote: 'I will now save this modified letter under 'save'. . . . Now suddenly the whole text disappears . . . ! And I haven't saved anything yet because I don't know how to do it. . . I will use your letter to do some 'saving exercises.' I will insert something after the words 'people were killed' to see whether that is saved. Yes, indeed, it was. Up to now I mistakenly saved my documents under 'Save as'. This is why I had lots of files, which I have now thrown away in the trash. I'm going to save this as well.' This letter was saved on a diskette in the Sicco Manholt Archive at the IISH (inventory number 574).
