[Paris, 1788] p. 6-7.
Arch. Maréchal
On 15 August 1750 Sylvain Maréchal, one of the most radical socialist atheists, was born in Paris. He was the author of an almanac in which he proposed a new calendar that replaced the names of the saints with those of the "benefactors of humanity" - philosophers, writers, and scientists. In this Almanach des Honnêtes Gens. L'an du premier règne de la raison, pour la présente année (Almanac of Honest People. The first year in the reign of reason, for this year) he left one date blank: 15 August, his own birthday.
