In Bolivia the miners successfully call to a halt the military junta driven by corruption and cocaine in September 1982. A Hunger March by 100.000 people in La Paz on 15 September 1982 gives birth to a general strike. Thereupon the military decides to delegate its power and reinstall the parliament. The March of the miners thus sets the democratic president Hernán Siles Zuazo in the saddle. Economic problems including extreme inflation three years later lead to Zuazo's defeat.
