The Senegalese daily Dakar Matin (now: Le Soleil) was funded by the French Department of Development after Senegalese independence in 1960. Dakar Matin focuses on European and Western rather than on African news items. On 18 August 1969 the news from Africa is the establishment of relations between Kuwait and Senegal. The first man to receive a heart transplant, Philip Blaiberg, from South Africa, died from heartfailure.
