Johnson War Criminal

Protests against the war in Vietnam were also reflected in Holland. As president of a friendly nation, calling Lyndon B. Johnson a killer was legally proscribed. People would get around the law by using such wordplays as "Johnson is a miller" or "Johnson is a terrifying president". During a symposium on 21 October 1967 Bernard Delfgaauw, a philosophy professor, came up with a statement that could provide a solution: 'Measured by criteria used in Nurenberg and Tokyo, Johnson, his supporters, and generals are war criminals." This sentence was spread on thousands of banners and posters.
