New Paper Money in British Guyana


Paper money from Demerary and Essequibo, 1823

The British Guyanese colonies, Demerary and Essequibo, issue paper money for the first time. The region is under martial law following the slave revolt of 1823. The bank note is the equivalent of two Brazilian golden joes, or 44 Dutch guilders.
