Christmas on New Year's Eve

Soviet Union nr 1 (47) January 1954

After the 1917 revolution, the traditional Christmas celebration was removed to New Year's Eve in the Soviet Union. The New Year is warmly welcomed with a decorated fir tree, sweets and songs. Grandfather Frost, a lookalike of Santaclaus, and his daughter Snowgirl, come to offer presents. On this picture from 1954 'G. M. Sleptsov, an employee at the USSR Ministry of the Iron and Steel Industry, helps his wife and daughter decorate their New Year Tree'.
