Pacifist Socialist Party

Membership booklet

BG A59/936

During the Cold War, the social democratic parties in Western Europe sided with the U.S. In Holland a group of peace activists was discontented about this choice, but they felt equally uncomfortable with the communist movement. When various attempts to get the alternative Leftist voice represented in Parliament were unsuccessful, a group of 'politically independent socialists and anti-militarists' decided to establish their own party, the Pacifist Socialist Party.
The PSP was born on 26 January 1957, and within three years it was represented in Parliament and in local and provincial councils.
