Internationale Situationniste

A group of experimental artists and intellectuals establishes the Situationist International during a two-day conference in Italy on July 27-28, 1957. The Situationists belong to an anarchist tradition that rejects hierarchy and work and wants to dissolve the boundaries between every-day life and art. Representatives of the Situationist International (S.I.) can be found in architecture and painting (e.g. Constant and his visionary city New Babylon), as well as in politics. The S.I. inspired the May '68 movement in Paris. Guy Debord is a central figure in the S.I. In 1972 the Situationist International is disbanded.
