Kovan Gumarov:
'I no longer believe in the Bais'
(Translated from Kazakh)
From: Pravda, 5-8-1933

Summary of the text:
'My problem was that I believed in the Bais (the tribal chiefs). As a shepherd in the steppes of Kazakstan I cursed Soviet power and did not pay taxes. That's why I was taken prisoner and brought here. Here there were Bais, too, but I learned who to trust and who not to trust. I had a teacher who told me about Lenin and Stalin and the Bais. I joined the Natsmen (National Minorities) collective 'The Kazakh builder' and started to work honestly. Now I know who my enemies and my friends are and I won't have anything to do with the Bais anymore.' Released before his sentence was completed.
